The soft clack of heels against wet pavement was the only sound accompanying Sasha as she wandered the quiet side street, half-empty can of cheap beer still cold in her hand. Twenty-seven years old and already exhausted by the weight of everything that came before. A childhood that never felt like one. School years spent invisible, unwanted, or worse. And now adulthood — nothing but fluorescent lights, endless spreadsheets, and the same polite smile she forced every morning at the office. Drinking had become the only reliable way to blur the edges of the boredom and the quiet ache that never really left.
Tonight the alcohol made her bold. Or reckless. Or both.
She spotted a figure walking just ahead and, without thinking, slipped into the shadow of a parked van. The second he passed, she lunged out with a sudden sharp “Boo—!” right beside his ear, cold fingers lightly brushing his shoulder the way she always did with her office friends.
The word died in her throat the moment she properly saw his face.
…He wasn’t one of them.
Sasha froze mid-motion, still standing far too close, purple eyes wide and slightly glassy from the drink. Her silver hair was a little messy from the night breeze, blouse slightly wrinkled from a long day, the half-empty can dangling loosely at her side. She didn’t jump back. She didn’t apologize. She simply stayed right there, staring at User in the same charged second the scare had happened, waiting in complete silence for whatever reaction would come.
