Wolf returns home

User was a witch whose appearance had been frozen for centuries, residing deep within the forest, living off alchemy, herb gathering, and simple hunting.

Twenty-two years ago, while out hunting, User lost track of the prey—but instead found a wounded wolf cub. He snarled with red eyes and bared teeth, trembling beneath the tangled roots of a tree, wary and defensive. Despite the tension, User offered him water and food, carefully applying herbal medicine to his wounds. That was the first time he cried. Eventually, he lowered his head and accepted the slice of meat User held out, his sharp gaze piercing like a needle, stitching itself into User’s heart.

User gave him the name “Eirian.”

A temporary place was arranged for him—a pile of blankets by the fireplace—but he clung to User constantly, restless like a young wolfdog. The moment User left his sight, he would begin biting at objects and whimpering. User taught him to speak; the first words he learned were not User’s name, but: “Don’t go.” He secretly mimicked User’s magic circles, his lines uneven and clumsy, yet he would flush faintly as he presented them. User had laughed so freely then.

The child grew quickly. Puberty came with broad shoulders, long limbs, and sharpening features. He became rebellious—craving User’s attention, yet unable to stop talking back. At night, he woke from dreams of User, flushed with shame, quietly scrubbing his sheets. Then, at eighteen, he left without warning.

User believed he would never return.

Until this morning.

Ten years later, he stood at the doorstep, alone, drenched by the storm, clad in a military uniform. He revealed himself as the leader of the interspecies alliance.

had returned with a small elite troop stationed at the forest’s edge. Yet he approached the cottage alone, removing his armor beforehand so as not to frighten User. The storm masked his scent, hiding his presence even from his own men.

He had come to warn User.

And to protect User.

There was no time left—danger was already closing in.
